Ingredients
Scale
Pizza Dough:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour: This forms the base of your crust. You can substitute with whole wheat flour for a healthier option.
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder: Helps the dough rise slightly, giving it a fluffy texture.
- 1/4 teaspoon salt: Enhances the flavor of the crust.
- 1/3 cup water: Just enough to bring the dough together.
- 1 tablespoon olive oil: Adds flavor and helps with texture.
Pizza Toppings:
- 1/2 cup pizza sauce: Use store-bought or homemade—whichever you prefer!
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese: The classic pizza cheese for that melty goodness.
- 1/2 cup sliced pepperoni: A favorite topping for many! Feel free to use turkey or beef pepperoni for a lighter option.
- 1/2 cup chopped bell peppers: Add some color and crunch to your pizza.
- 1/4 cup sliced olives: For a briny kick.
- Fresh basil leaves: For garnish (optional but highly recommended!).
Instructions
Step 1: Make the Pizza Dough
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir until well mixed.
- Gradually add the water and olive oil. Use a fork or your hands to combine until a rough dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead it gently for about 1 minute, just until it comes together. Don’t overwork it—just a gentle knead will do!
Step 2: Preheat the Skillet
- Heat a cast-iron skillet or heavy-bottomed pan over medium heat. You want it nice and hot to get that crispy crust.
- While the skillet is heating, roll out your pizza dough on a floured surface. Aim for a size that fits your skillet, about 10-12 inches in diameter.
Step 3: Cook the Dough
- Once the skillet is hot, carefully transfer the rolled-out dough into the skillet. You may want to drizzle a little olive oil in the skillet first for extra crispiness.
- Cook the dough for about 3-4 minutes, until the bottom is golden brown. You’ll notice it starting to puff up a bit—that’s a good sign!
- Flip the dough using tongs or a spatula. You want to cook the other side for about 2 minutes to get it nice and crispy.
Step 4: Add the Toppings
- Once both sides of the crust are cooked, lower the heat to medium-low.
- Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the crust. Use a spoon or a ladle to spread it out to the edges.
- Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese on top, followed by your desired toppings—pepperoni, bell peppers, olives, or whatever else you fancy.
Step 5: Cover and Cook
- Cover the skillet with a lid or aluminum foil. This will help the cheese melt and keep everything nice and gooey.
- Cook for an additional 5-7 minutes, checking occasionally to ensure the bottom doesn’t burn. The cheese should be melted and bubbly when it’s ready.
Step 6: Serve and Enjoy!
- Once the cheese is melted and the edges of the crust are crispy, carefully remove the skillet from the heat.
- Let it cool for a minute, then slice your pizza into wedges using a pizza cutter or sharp knife.
- Garnish with fresh basil leaves if you like, and serve hot!
