- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1/2 cup milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Green food coloring (optional for a spooky touch)
For Decoration:
- Black olives (sliced, for “eyes”)
- Parsley or chives (for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare the Filling: In a large skillet, cook the ground beef or lamb over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess fat.
- Add Vegetables: Stir in the onion, carrots, and garlic, cooking until the vegetables are tender, about 5 minutes.
- Mix in Other Ingredients: Add the tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, beef broth, peas, thyme, salt, and pepper. Simmer for about 10 minutes until thickened.
- Make the Mashed Potatoes: Boil the chopped potatoes in salted water until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain and return to the pot. Mash with butter, milk, salt, and pepper. If desired, add green food coloring for a spooky effect.
- Assemble the Pie: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). In a baking dish, layer the meat filling, then top with mashed potatoes, smoothing it out with a spatula.
- Decorate: Use a fork to create spooky patterns on the potato topping. Place sliced olives as “eyes” on top of the potatoes.
- Bake: Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbling. Garnish with parsley or chives before serving.
